Via Ferrata Routes Spain
Via Ferrata del Castillo de Salvatierra. Height 780m
A multi pitch Via Ferrata overlooking the beautiful Castillo de Salvatierra.
The route is very modern and was extended in 2008 to include a second Tibetan wire bridge and another parallel route. To complete all sections it is necessary to reverse down the first wall to pick up the new route. Several sections are vertical but should present no problem to anyone with grade 2 scrambling experience.
Park. 30S 0686538 4278548 VF start. 30S 0686958 4278655
Estimated grade 2. Easy access. Duration 1 hour.
A well established Via Ferrata route with roots dating back to the 70’s.
It was originally a pure rock climbing route with a death toll and judging
from the poor quality of rock you can understand it. Numerous sections
have wire and chain protection although there are several exposed areas.
However, the local mountain club have done a fine job in maintaining the
route and during our climb we met José Ignacio on one of his inspection
climbs. Some experience in rock climbing is advisable for this route.
Estimated grade 3. Easy access by rough road. Duration 1 ½ hrs.
A new Via Ferrata and possible the largest in the Alicante Province was
installed on the Ponoch in 2006. The VF starts at 589 metres and at the time of our first climb in November 2006, it terminated at about 770 metres. Exiting the route is via a track and then two abseils of 30m
and 35m that return to within 30m of the start point.
With several vertical sections and one slight overhang this is not a route
for beginners. Experience in rock climbing or grade 3 scrambling is recommended because of the sheer exposure and abseils.
Park 30S 0748290 4278197 VF start 30S 0747859 4278424
Estimated grade 4. Easy access by rough marked track.
Duration 1 ½ hrs for two people including the abseils.
Les Marujes. This Via Ferrata was installed at Tavernes de la Valldigna in
July 2006. The VF starts in the Barranco de la Penya Roja.
A 3m abseil is followed by a short Tibetan bridge and then 9 stemples.
The main 55 metre crag is reached by a short scramble. At the time of our first climb in March 2007 a further 128 rungs on the main crag led to the summit. Descent is via the PR-38 hiking track.
The climb is similar to the Ponoch but with several hard to reach stemples
requiring some technical moves.
Experience in rock climbing or grade 3 scrambling is advisable for this route.
